Ron has dedicated himself to the City of Carmel and its citizens for more than three decades
Ron Carter has spent the bulk of his business career in advertising, marketing and sales management. After spending five years as national sales manager for Rand McNally & Co., Ron moved to the agency side of the desk serving as vice president of account services for advertising agencies. During his career in advertising, he handled all types of accounts from a seventy-store retail jewelry chain to a western boot manufacturer, to a manufacturer of heavy-duty truck transmissions. Ron was a founding member of the Monon Greenway Committee in Carmel. He served as a long-time member of the Council’s Parks, Recreation and Arts Committee, is a member of the Land Use Committee, was president of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission and currently serves on the Carmel City Center Development Commission. In addition, Ron is a member of the Carmel-Clay Historic Preservation Commission.
He is also a founder and the president of the Carmel Farmers Market. Ron has been the leading advocate of trails and greenways in Carmel city government for over twenty years. Through Ron’s leadership Carmel has been designated a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. In addition, the Rails to Trails Conservancy has designated the Monon Greenway as a Hall of Fame Trail.
Ron’s joys outside of politics and goverment
Pets: “We have a West Highland White Terrier named Derby. He is the third Westie we have had. I used to show and groom Westies.”
Hobbies: “Bike riding, RV’ing, Traveling, Volunteering for the Carmel Farmers Market, Auto Racing (I grew up in Speedway. Began working at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway when I was fourteen. My last job there was driving the tour bus. That was at the time when the tour bus drivers actually narrated the tours. I think that helped me to become a better public speaker. Cooking, my best dish is pork roast with carrots, potatoes, onions in mushroom sauce done in the Instant Pot.”
Favorite Vacation Spot: “Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. We have gone there for years.”
Favorite sports teams: “IU, Carmel High School, and Butler. We are Butler basketball season ticket holders.”
Family of service: “Public service seems to run in Ron and Barb’s family. Among their ten grandchildren, one is an EMT, one is an Indianapolis police officer, and one is a fourth grade teacher at Plainfield Public Schools, along with being coach of the PHS Dance Team.”
